Ever wanted to learn to play a brass instrument or drums? St David’s Training Band offers free music tuition and free instrument loan for beginners of all ages across Gorebridge, Midlothian, Edinburgh, and the Lothians.
Music should be accessible to everyone. Whether you are a parent looking for an engaging creative activity for your child, or an adult wanting to start a fulfilling new hobby, our supportive community band is the perfect place to start.

100% free tuition: Qualified brass instruction with zero tuition fees.
Free instrument loan: We provide cornets, horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas, and percussion – no need to purchase expensive equipment.
All ages welcome: From primary school children (ages 7+) to adult beginners starting from scratch.
No prior experience needed: We teach you how to read music and hold your instrument from day one.
Clear progression: Build skills at your own speed with opportunities to perform in local concerts and step up into our Senior Band.
Not sure you're fully ready to commit? Come along to one of our regular Pitch Up and Play days to have a quick try-out and meet some of the band.

Meet your tutor: Warm, encouraging instruction led by experienced brass educators.
Get fitted with an instrument: We’ll help you choose the right instrument for your hand size and breath technique.
Make your first notes: Learn basic sound production, rhythm, and simple tunes in a fun group environment.

Our Training Band meets weekly in the bright, modern surroundings of Vogrie Hall.
Rehearsal day: Tuesday evenings
Venue: Vogrie Hall, 33 Vogrie Road, Gorebridge, EH23 4HH
Travel: Easily reachable by bus (Lothian 29 or 48), train (Borders Railway), or car (A7 via Midlothian). Free on-street parking available.
