Today, 26th Nov, our young beginners, St. David's Budding Brass, took part in the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championship, Preparatory section. Their young conductor, just turned 17, was wielding the baton for a second year running.

Their first piece, Singin' in the Rain, was judged to have, 'dynamic contrasts well handled' and 'a good balance of parts'.

Handbags and Gladrags followed. After a ragged ensemble opening, both adjudicators enjoyed the 'strong delivery' of the 'confident solo cornet', with percussion adding to the overall performance.

In the closing number, Ghostbusters, the band settled into 'well handled syncopation' and 'solid dynamics'.

The young players and their conductor were delighted to be awarded a Silver certificate.
